Here are or top ten “Gotta Haves” from this weekend’s Mecum Auction in Austin, Texas.

Lot S28: 1971 Chevrolet Corvette

I love the green, I love the big block and the 4-speed. The power steering and air are just extra kickers. Maybe not the fastest big block Corvette ever made, but this would be a heck of a nice driver!

Lot S38.1: 1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda

The chances to own a Hemi ‘Cuda are getting less and less these days, the chances to own an unrestored, low mile Hemi ‘Cuda? Impossible! This car will fetch big money. Aside from everything mentioned, this car is a rare color too, the beautiful Jamaican Blue.

Lot S112.1: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window

Lot S35: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window

As much as I love a split window, its never really been a bucket list car for me, my dad had one years ago so I kinda checked it off the list. But both of these cars grabbed my attention. The first one, because its that classic silver that I so often see a split window pictured in. I love the original hub caps, its just got that classic Vette look. The second one grabbed my attention for just the opposite, that custom color, its different from the norm and beautiful. If you end up with either one of these Vette’s, its gonna be a good weekend in Austin!

Lot S137: 1963 Chevrolet Impala

While I’m not normally a huge fan of the 63 Chevrolet passenger cars,  all the power options with the 409 drew me to this car. Rare options, black exterior, red interior, someone had a good eye when they checked the order boxes on this one!

Lot S94: 1956 Chevrolet Corvette Restomod

Who doesn’t love a resto-mod Vette? This ’56 is as clean as they come. It looks basically stock on the outside, but its anything but stock on the inside!

Lot S118.1 1970 Dodge Challenger

I remember years ago shortly after the Viper came out seeing a Challenger swapped with a Viper V10 at the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona Beach, I thought it was an awesome idea ever since, you just don’t see it done nearly enough!

Lot S116: 1972 Chevrolet Corvette LT1

The Lt1 Vette’s are THE VETTE to have in my opinion. The ultra rare 72 version with factory air are even better!

Lot F58: 1965 Ford Mustang Restomod

While the title says restomod, Im not really sure how much that applies. What it is though is a tough looking little coupe with enough creature comforts to make it fun, but not take away the muscle car feel or look.

Lot F239: 1969 Chevrolet C10 Pickup

Original patina on a C10? Need I say more? I mean? Really? This thing is out of this world awesome!

Hot Rod Power Tour Road Side Shots From Murphy, NC

When I heard the power tour was coming within 45 minutes of my home town I knew some how I had to be there to watch them cruise through. So I scoped out the route and decided the best place to see them at a slower speed would be Murphy, NC. So me and my buddy Dennis from Rebel Kustom Paint headed up early this morning to try and catch the action. When we took the left turn into Murphy about 8 am we could already see cars going by! So we quickly found a roadside parking spot and I grabbed the cameras. I shot almost 800 cars between 8:15 and 11:00. I don’t think many more than maybe a dozen were two of the same car. I could’t believe the quality and variety of cars going by, you had your late model muscle, tri-five Chevys, Camaros, Mustangs, Mopars, Street Rods along with a nice mix of odd stuff. There were plenty of Buick’s, Pontiacs, and even a few AMC’s as well. I’ve saw a lot of cool automotive related things in the past but this had to rank Top 5 all time. Although this memory must take notice, I plan on replacing it in 2014 with a Hot Rod Power Tour Long Haul memory!!

If you see your car in here and you want a high quality copy email me at jeff@jdsmotorsports.com . These photos on photo bucket are re-sized and the quality isn’t near as good as they could me. I can also photo shop them up and clean them up a little for you. No charge, just share the link to this page with all your buddies that were on the tour as well!

It’s hard to even begin to pick favorites, although I will highlight a few later in the week, but here are a few that catch my eye right off!

NASCAR Picks: Texas

Pick-A-Winner

Okay so my sure fire bet of Mark Martin last week started to blow up on my early in practice and continued through qualifying. While I was tempted to pull him from my Yahoo list of starters I held the course since I had picked him to win the race.  He ended up giving me a 10th place finish, moving my season average to 14.8, hey at least its going in the right direction!

To see all my picks for the year, CLICK HERE

This week I’m going to go back to the driver that started me off in this whole at Daytona, I’m going to pick Matt Kenseth to win at Texas. He won here before in 2011 and the Gibbs cars have always been pretty strong at Texas. Matt’s still been running up front and I think its his week to shake the demons and get back into victory lane again.

Yahoo Fantasy Sports Picks

I had a solid week at Martinsville, Gordon got me a 3rd place finish, Martin got me a 10th place. I was let down by Dale Jr who ended up 24th as well as Ricky Stenhouse Jr who finished 25th. Guess I should have started Danica!

But this is another week and another shot at redemption.

A driver- Matt Kenseth, see above for reasons

B drivers- Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards- both have ran good here, the Roush cars have always ran strong here, its a good place to use a start for both of them.

C driver-  Ricky Stenhouse Jr.- I know he’s gonna have a good car, I think he has a solid shot at a top 15 here.

On the bench- A, Jimmie Johnson; B, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch; C, Danica Patrick

Mecum Houston: Thursday Cars To Watch

Its Mecum Auction time again! This auction takes Mecum to The Reliant Center in Houston, Texas. Here are our cars to watch for Day 1, Thursday!

TOP-10

Lot T127: 1979 Chevy Camaro Z28

My favorite body style of all the Camaro’s, these late second generation cars have came on strong over the last few years. This is a very nice example of one with the Z28 package and the rare 4-speed.

Lot T126: 1964 AMC Rambler American Convertible

This is a rare piece for sure, but rare isn’t always desirable. Very interested to see how big or little money this one goes for. Check out the rare “twin stick” overdrive set up on it!

rambler

Lot T191: 1972 Chevy C10 Truck

What an awesome truck, a mix of new technology with the A/C and LED tail lights but a truck that still keeps the classic look.

c10

Lot T209: 1957 Chevy Wagon 150

I love a 1957 Chevy 150, I love the basic look, a wagon is even better! Check this one out!

1957

Lot T266: 1966 Dodge Charger

The ugly duckling so to speak of the Dodge Chargers. It caught my eye because we once had a 1966 Charger, only ours had the 426 Hemi in it.

charger

Lot T270: 1951 Ford Custom Sedan

It’s hard to beat the look of a 1951 Ford. This one is a little too stock for my liking but a nice car non the less.

51

Lot T289: 1990 Chevy Corvette ZR1

“King Of The Hill”, this was my dream Corvette growing up. This is a very, very nice example of a well kept ZR1.

Lot T302: 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra R

One of my bucket list cars, one of two hundred and fifty ever made.

Lot T333: 1990 Chevy Silverado Truck

This is an interesting item, an old school tow rig. I really like the late model wheels, but the long bed kinda kills it too. Still a nice truck though, just not sure if its collectible or with today’s modern diesel’s usable enough to bring any kind of decent price.

1990

Lot T322: 1996 Chevy Grand Sport Corvette

I read an article at the begging of the year that stated the 1996 Grand Sport was one of the most collectible Corvette’s of all time. Personally I just don’t see it. Maybe this one will fetch big money and prove me wrong!
